Year 2 : ESDRED TECHNICAL RESULTS to January 2006
Module 2: Waste canister Transfer and Emplacement Technology for Horizontal and Vertical Disposal Concepts
Summary :
During the second year of the project the Conceptual Design was complete for both the vertical and the horizontal emplacement concept while the Basic Design is still ongoing for the horizontal emplacement concept. In the meanttime "the Protype Testing" of a Pushing Robot for the emplacement of type C waste canisters in a horizontal disposal cell was carried out during Q4 2005 and can be considered as a technical success. The Detailed Design for the emplacement device within the vertical emplacement concept was launched in November 2005.
Work completed :
- 1. Definition of “Input Data and Functional Requirements” for Module 2
- 2. Conceptual Design for both emplacement concepts
o 2.1. DBE Technology’s emplacement concept for spent fuel canisters (BSK3) into deep vertical boreholes in salt formations - view pictures
o 2.2. ANDRA’s emplacement concept for HLW canisters (C type canisters) into horizontal disposal cells in argillite formations- view pictures
o 2.3. Development and testing of a pushing robot prototype system for the horizontal emplacement concep - view pictures - 3. Basic design for both emplacement technologies
o 3.1. For DBE Technology - Basic design for the vertical emplacement concept - view pictures
